Last Tuesday the UN issued a report stating that children in Syria were being tortured in detention and slaughtered in massacres, and this was being done almost entirely by members of the Syrian army (you can find the report here – the Syria stuff starts on page 22). This is how CNN reported the story (contains graphic scenes)…
Russia Today (RT), also known as PutinTube because it’s funded by the Russian government, takes a different view on the conflict in Syria…
Shortly after that UN report was released, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said that Russia was arming Syria with attack helicopters…
This is how Russia Today successfully refuted Clinton’s remarks…
On Thursday, 2 days after the UN report, Amnesty International issued yet another of their reports about the violence in Syria, saying that President Bashar al Assad and his regime were committing crimes against humanity. This is how Al Jazeera reported it (contains graphic scenes)…
Also on Thursday, there was a discussion about Syria on The Alyona Show on Russia Today. The Alyona Show is broadcast from Washington and is aimed squarely at an American audience…
People can make up their own minds about Syria, although since I’m never short of an opinion I will add that it’s pretty obvious why Russia and China are backing the regime in Syria, and why they keep blocking UN intervention: UN intervention sets a dangerous precedent for the repressive regimes in Moscow and Beijing. I’d also say that it’s pretty obvious that the USA is financing and arming the rebels in Syria, because it’s in the strategic interests of the USA to have a pro-Washington government in that part of the world.
Yup, truth gets lost in the fog of war. The sad thing is that amidst all the politicking, what’s blatantly visible is that an awful lot of innocent people die.
