Rob’s Radio Hour

An eclectic mix of music from across the decades

Back in 2009 and 2010 I was trying to get a radio production company off the ground. It was called Local Radio France (see here). Rob’s Radio Hour was not a programme I intended to sell; more a bit of fun on my part. At the time I was renting a cottage in middle-of-nowhere France, which I used as a studio. It had a very high ceiling, a bit like a chapel, and no insulation. The first eight Radio Hours were done in the winter of 2010. It was bloody freezing. The cottage had a big wood burning stove, but still struggled to keep the place warm. My recording desk was located as near to the stove as possible without risk of fire. I had some really bad colds during that winter, and you can probably hear it in my voice in those first eight Radio Hours; and on that subject, I make no claims to be a great DJ (people say I talk too slowly in the programmes); in fact I sound pretty awful in the early Radio Hours. I suppose this is just me rabbiting on about and playing my favourite music.

Just mooching your site! Great music old chap! Have you followed Gilad Atzmon – he’s the current sax player for the Blockheads – you’d like him. He’s Israeli, and got himself into all sorts of trouble with the fascists for daring to criticise Israel and insist that he is a Palestinian. A man of courage, but also a phenomenal saxophonist, just done a Coltrane tribute album that’s prettt great.

I once listened to Gilad Atzmon on the Richie Allen Show, but obviously it concentrated on the political side of things.

Thanks for pointing me towards Atzmon’s music, which I will check out.
